Highlights of the Russian-South African bilateral relations in 2011

December 6, 2011 Russian Minister of Justice Alexander Konovalov paid a working visit to Pretoria where he held talks with his South African counterpart Minister Radebe. The two Ministers signed the Memorandum of Understanding and the Programme of Cooperation for 2012-2013 paving the way for enhanced collaboration between Russia and South Africa in the field of justice.
November 28, 2011 The Russian delegation headed by Mr.A.Bedritsky, Special Representative of the President of Russia on Climate, took part in the International Conference COP17 in Durban.
November 23, 2011 Dr.Ibrahim Ibrahim, Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa, took part in the BRICS Deputy Foreign Ministers Meeting in Moscow dedicated to the situation in the Middle East and North Africa.
November 8-13, 2011 The Minister of Education and Science of Russia, Mr.Alexander Fursenko, took part in the 39th Carnegie Group Meeting in Cape Town.
October 5-6, 2011 The Fifth Meeting of the South Africa – Russian Federation Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Military-Technical Cooperation took place in Pretoria. The Meeting was chaired Ms.N.Z.H.Mpofu, the South African Secretary for Defence. The Russian delegation was led by Mr.V.K.Dzirkaln, Deputy Director of the Russian Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation.
September 26-29, 2011 The South African parliamentary delegation led by H.E.Mr.M.Mahlangu, Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces, visited Moscow at the invitation of H.E.Mr.Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council, to strengthen cooperation with Russia's upper chamber of parliament.
September 26-27, 2011 The joint session of Russia-South Africa Business Council was held on the sidelines of the Tenth ITEC Session in Pretoria. The forum was co-chaired by Mr.V.Kramer, MD of Renova Group, and Mr.R.Gumede, Chairman of Guma Group.
September 26-27, 2011 The Tenth Session of the Joint Intergovernmental Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation (ITEC) between Russia and South Africa took place in Pretoria. ITEC Session was Co-Chaired by Ms. Maite Nkoana-Mashabane, Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of the RSA and Mr.Yuri Trutnev, Russia's Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology.
July 5, 2011 H.E.Mr.Jacob Zuma, President of the Republic of South Africa, paid a working visit to Sochi, Russia, to hold bilateral discussions with H.E.Dmitry Medvedev, President of the Russian Federation, with a special emphasis on the situation in Libya.
June 17, 2011 Bilateral consultations on the UN Security Council-related matters took place in Pretoria between Russia's Deputy Foreign Minister G.Gatilov and South African Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation I.Ibrahim. Key issues of international and African agenda were also discussed.
March 26-30, 2011 The Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, Mr.Nikolay Patrushev, visited the Republic of South Africa at the invitation of Dr.Siyabonga Cwele, Minister of State Security of South Africa.
